Hiking Deep Water Cove to Cape Brett Lighthouse (return)
Water Taxi from either Paihia/Russell, or be picked up from Rawhiti at the start of the Oke Bay Scenic Reserve (start of the full hike).
The Water Taxi will take you for a scenic cruise along the Cape Brett Peninsular out to Deep Water Cove.
From Deep Water Cove, you begin the Half Day Hike out to the Cape Brett Lighthouse.
It is approximately 4km to the Lighthouse (8km return) and provides incredible views over the Bay of Islands and Whangamumu Headlands.
Pack a lunch and water, to enjoy at the Cape Brett Lighthouse, before returning along the track to Deep Water Cove for your Water Taxi pickup back to Rawhiti (start of the Full Track) or Paihia/Russell
This section of the Cape Brett Track requires a good level of fitness, but is incredibly rewarding.
Overnight option is available. On arrival to the Cape Brett lighthouse, make your way down to the DOC Hut at the edge of the peninsular. Bookings essential
Return to Deep Water Cove the following morning for your pre-booked water taxi back to Rawhiti (start of the Full Track) or Paihia/Russell.

What to Take:
- Plenty of Drinking Water
- Good Walking Shoes/Hiking boots
- First Aid Kit
- Communication Device – there is patchy mobile reception along most of the track
Safety Considerations:
- a good level of fitness is advised for the Cape Brett Hike
- be self sufficient and carry a first aid kit
- take extreme caution as there are many bluffs and steep cliffs
- remain on the track at all times
- allow at least 10 hours of daylight for the Full Day Cape Brett Hike
- wear tramping/hiking boots, especially if the track is wet
- take plenty of water to drink during the tramp
- bring a water treatment system if you are staying at the Cape Brett hut
